DIY How to: Washing Cloth Diapers & clothes in an apartment without a washing machine & dryer!

So this is how I wash my cloth diapers & clothes (sometimes). I usually don't have time to wash clothes this way, because for 4 people that's a lot of laundry, those usually just go to the laundry mat.

I have a portable washing machine I use, (I live in an apartment). I did not buy this machine, I was smart & asked for this for Christmas & so far its the best Christmas gift. I use my portable washing machine usually every other day, it takes some time to get them done depending on when you start each step, I usually am too busy with my littles that I don't get to do each step as soon as its done.

How I wash cloth diapers, clothes, sheets, & other small accessories with my portable washing machine.

Go to the dollar tree & buy a pair of reusable kitchen gloves, you will need them, trust me, the ammonia from the pee will burn your hands! They are only $1, I have 2 pairs on hand because of my sneaky little 2 year old.

I usually seperate my diapers, inserts, & prefolds when washing them. I usually only add about 4-6 diapers per diaper load, about 8-10 inserts per insert load, & about 6-7 prefolds per prefold load.

1: Cold Rinse: Add diapers. Fill up the portable washing machine to the line (I like to go a little over the line) with cold water from your tub (my shower hose detaches & I use that to fill up my machine because it is too heavy to move (for me) once its filled, then I turn it on to the halfway mark or just a little after so its on for about 9 minutes, then once its done drain it.

2: Wash Cycle: add hot water with your detergent (for my 4lbs of washing I do I only use 1/4 tsp of detergent), I turn my machine to the longest time which is 15 minutes, then once done drain it.

3: Cold Rinse: do another cold rinse, exactly the same as the first cold rinse in step 1.

4: If u still see bubbles u can do another cold rinse or rinse them in the sink or tub & squeeze the water out repeatedly a couple times individually.

5: Ring out your diapers & inserts & hang dry them. I have 3 portable clothes drying racks, I  got on sale for $17 each, & used gift cards from Christmas to purchase these. (Some people just don't know how to pick out Christmas gifts, or they buy you & your kids stuff that you told them not to buy = my life!!)

Washing diapers with a plunger in your bathtub or other non-machine item. This is the cheap way to wash your diapers & clothes at home while only spending $1-$5, you can use a storage tote, bucket, your bathtub, etc. Or you can buy a Mobile washing plunger off of Amazon for about $20, its made for washing clothes in the exact way.

1: Cold Rinse: fill up the tote with cold water from your tub, and using a CLEAN plunger (u can get one for $1 at dollar tree, same with the bucket), plunge it for a few minutes (YouTube videos if you need help), then drain it,

2: Wash Cycle: add hot water with your detergent (for my 4lbs of washing I do I only use 1/4 tsp of detergent), plunge for about 5 minutes or until u think they r clean, then drain.

3: Cold Rinse: do another cold rinse.

4: If u still see bubbles u can do another cold rinse or rinse them in the sink or tub & squeeze the water out repeatedly a couple times individually.

5: Ring out your diapers & inserts & hang dry them.

TIPS for washing both ways, even with a regular washer & dryer:

1: I never do just a cold wash I don't think they get as clean.
2: Pre-rinse your cloth diapers & inserts with your diaper sprayer (this is where your diy diaper sprayer pal comes in handy & is so awesome!), or rinse them in the sink & make sure to squeeze them really good before putting them in your wet bag/pail bag. This helps with your rinse cycle & gets the diapers cleaner. This also helps with the smell, that's one of the main reasons I do this.
3: Seriously buy a pair of rubber gloves!!!

If you have any questions comment here. I will be doing a video to show my entire Cloth Diapering Wash Routine. Sometimes I don't do all of the processes that I will show you, & I will mention which ones I don't do every time.
